Korean designers introduce Korean fashion and culture.

Introducing fabrics that would look great on shirts. Tips for getting a swipe at the Dongdaemun Fabric Market.

I’d like to introduce a material that looks like cotton when you look at it, and is a shirt style, but has a slightly blouse-like rustle.

Dongdaemun Market

Building D, 2708-3

Tel: 02-2266-1726/02-2277-1726

Gaon Tax

44-inch diagonal spandex

76% polyester

21% rayon

3% spandex

Spandex blends are usually comfortable to wear. A little bit of tension would probably make it more comfortable for movement, right?

I’m not currently preparing samples with this material, but I picked up a swatch while I was at the market because it looked so pretty. ^^

It’s not easy to get a swatch at Dongdaemun Market these days. They’ll just give it to someone who looks like a designer. There’s a certain skill involved, you know? Even at the wholesale market, they’ll say things like, “Unnie, how much is it?” It’s like crying while using colloquial expressions. ^^

Here’s a tip: just say, “Please give me a swatch,” and confidently accept it.

Don’t say, “Can you give me one?” That’s a no-no, because it signals that you’re not the type of person who’s going to place an order.

To us, swatches look like just flyers, but they actually require a lot of work.

You have to send the fabric you’re going to make them into to the factory that cuts them, and swatches like this one with a business card attached…

The employees probably stapled them themselves. They usually cost 500-1,000 won. The more expensive the fabric, the higher the unit price, right? Keep that in mind and confidently say, “Thank you, please give me a swatch.” ^^

Personally, I prefer fabrics with a slight diagonal or texture to smooth, seamless fabrics.

While my taste can certainly be reflected in the design of my products, I think this texture lends a slightly more casual feel.

I prefer something a little lighter, rather than something too formal.

Sometimes, I think a cap can look stylish with a very sporty outfit, even with a formal style.

If you need just a few yards of fabric, most fabric shops won’t sell it that way. If you ask, “Where’s it from?” and say, “It’s a promotion,” you should be able to find the right fabric.

Next time, I’ll introduce you to some more interesting and stylish fabrics.
